New Logical and New Logical Sports are excited to welcome Eugene Kyne to our team as a match presenter and commentator. Eugene has been in NY since the late 1980s when he emigrated from Turloughmore In County Galway. A club seeped in GAA tradition, he was part of underage squads that won county titles at club level and at school level in Athenry.
After enrolling in the RTC in Galway, he travelling bug caught him as he headed stateside like thousands more at that time, landing in New York in March of 1986.
Clubs were popping up across the tristate area at that time, and Eugene went on to play soccer and football with Astoria Gaels in Queens. He captained the club to a Cosmopolitan Soccer League title in 2001 and was the Goalkeeper for the Gaels side that took hope NY GAA honors in 2003 when they defeated Roscommon for the Junior B title.
Hurling happened for Eugene as part of Galway sides in the late 90’s and early 00’s, before he joined in the formation of the Shannon Gaels Junior Hurling team as a manager and trainer. Both his sons played for the side.
While playing the games of the Gaels, the opportunity to write about it came along when Fergie Hanna and the Home & Away Newspaper were looking for a sports writer to cover Gaelic Park every weekend. What started as a past-time broadened into a 14-year period of coverage for Home & Away, Irish Voice, and Irish Central. He also covered John Duddy’s boxing career on occasion, while also doing some articles on Ireland soccer squad in the NY Championships that took place at The Metropolitan Oval in Queens,
While coaching and writing dominated the early 2000’s for Eugene, he was a selector and trainer for the NY college side that travelled to England. He was also the NY Football squad trainer when they played Mayo in the Connaught Chamipionship in 2009. When The NY Hurlers called him in 2013 as part of the World Games he again jumped in. Most recently he is helping out with the NY Hurlers as they prepare for the Lory Meagher Cup after a very successful title winning campaign of the Connaught Senior League in 2024.
